Eisner has been very clear that his inspiration for the film's core concept comes from the Warp. Instead, the film depicts a group of scientists and engineers discovering a ship that has literally been through Hell. Event Horizon would be a distant prequel, but it doesn't capture any of the endless war that makes up the main events. The film takes place in 2040, a scant 38,000 years before the franchise's plot properly begins. Event Horizon doesn't touch on any of those ideas. The story follows countless soldiers in dozens of armies in an endless galactic conflict. What is Warhammer about? The franchise is unique in its massive mountains of lore, much of which is utterly ignored by its core fanbase. However, above all of those influences, Eisner noted one particular media property as a piece of source material. The script took a lot of things from a lot of different sources, proudly proclaiming itself a hodgepodge of existing horror concepts. The story was initially compared to a "haunted house story in space." Many marked the similarities to Ridley Scott's Alien while others noted elements borrowed from films like The Shining. The one he received was Philip Eisner's script for Event Horizon.

Much akin to the movie, though taking only a slight step back, Bloober can begin the game with a rescue party on yet another attempt to requisition the lost Event Horizon spacecraft. In my head, I imagine mechanics being utilized similar to those in games of yore, such as the gravity boots and other assorted gear present in Dead Space alongside the atmospheric tension made popular by the likes of Silent Hill. Can you proceed, beyond that great dark unknown, or will fear rise up to consume you? This is the question Bloober is faced with when challenged with the likes of an Event Horizon game: how will it all play out? Whether it be through the mind-rending psychological, or through the heart-pounding survival, games with fear as their driving mechanism give way to test our willpower on a multitude of levels. Their enthusiasm to bring horror alive is almost palpable and, what with the lackluster video game offerings in sci-fi horror now persistent, it's about time we all took a trip into the unknown and entered "the ship of horrors." With the Event Horizon video game IP in their hands, a work of art and wonder would no sooner become reality. Enter Bloober Team, renowned developers of Layers of Fear, and the recently-released The Medium. Yet, despite the immense appeal, there has yet to be any tie-in video game made for this mind-numbing trip into the horrors of space.
